Online residence permit application procedure for British nationals and their family members residing in France or coming to settle in France before 31 December 2020

Who is this service for?

The online service allowing British nationals and their family members, residing in France before 31 December 2020, to apply for a "Withdrawal Agreement" residence permit is closed since October 4, 2021.

Only the module relating to the submission of additional documents that may be requested by the prefecture (when processing applications submitted online before October 4, 2021) remains accessible until December 31, 2021.

British nationals and their family members who are beneficiaries of the withdrawal agreement must now apply for a residence permit at the prefecture.
People concerned are :

  • British citizens reaching the age of majority after October 4, 2021;
  • family members arriving in France after this date;
  • British who were unable to apply before this date for legitimate reasons (health reasons, force majeure, etc.).

Other British nationals, who arrive in France as of 1 January 2021 and are not beneficiaries of the withdrawal agreement, have to apply for a residence permit at the prefecture.

From when will the residence permit be compulsory?

British nationals residing in France or coming to settle there before 31 December 2020 were required to apply for a residence permit online on this site before 4 October 2021.

Possession of a residence permit will be compulsory from 1 January 2022 for anyone over the age of 18. Until that date, the rights in terms of residence, professional activity and all social rights will be maintained.

Minors (under 18) are exempt from the obligation to hold a residence permit. They will have to apply for a residence permit on the basis of the withdrawal agreement during the year following their eighteenth birthday.

Residence permits bearing the mention “Citoyen UE” issued to UK nationals and their family members will no longer be valid from 1 January 2022.

How to complete your online application for a residence permit?

This online service simply allows you to s submit additional documents requested by the prefectures. To do so, you need the GED number, assigned by the prefecture.

Photographed or scanned documents must be in .pdf, .png, .jpeg or .jpg format.

Each document transmitted as a supporting document must have a different name.

The maximum size of each file cannot exceed 5 MB.

The form is entered in several steps. You will be asked to upload the corresponding supporting documents. Then, a page dedicated to observations will allow you to optionally leave any details you deem useful.

At the end of the procedure, you can check the information provided on the summary page, before confirming your online entry so that your application for a residence permit can be registered.

What are the steps of the procedure?

After validating your input online, a confirmation of the transfer of the complementary documents will be sent to you by e-mail.

Once your file has been processed, an e-mail will be sent to you by the prefecture services in order to set an appointment at the prefecture to finalise your application (receipt of the photograph and taking of fingerprints).

Your residence permit will then be sent to your home by post.
